Characters: Susan, Caspian, Lucy, Edmund, Peter, Eustace, Jill, Sebastian, Viktor
Story Type: Romance, Drama, Angst (movieverse)

Author's Note: THIS IS NOT FOR THE WEEKLY DRABBLE CHALLENGE. For personal enjoyment only. I received a compliment from my Chapter 2 of this fic in my blogspot and that quickly led me to make this one. I'm not a very good writer, but my idea of Susan and Caspian is still stuck in my head, and I'd really like it to have it written down. Please bear with my strange syntax formations, goofy grammar checks, horrible paragraphing and weird punctuation uses.

Disclaimer: Characters mentioned here are simply borrowed for a work of a fan. Not mine at all! That's why it's called fan fiction, duh!

Chapter 3: The Ride

Time passed by quickly as visitors started to leave one at a time in a courteous manner. Susan knew it was getting late but it seems the lights from the chandelier, the vibrance of the drapes by the windows and the music of strings in the atmosphere still give life to the occasion.

She had taken Viktor’s invitation for a dance earlier which led her to steal moments of stares and glances at Sebastian while he danced and talked to Kathryn. The dance floor was easy for her to make an excuse of each gesture she made.

She tilted her head up and looked at the chandelier hanging from the majestic ceiling of the Valmont mansion. She recalled his eyes and his smile. Joy and strangeness filled her.

She sighed. The vision remained vivid in her head.

“What are you looking at?” Viktor asked, noticing Susan’s blue eyes locked on the lights above.

“Oh, nothing,” she said and smiled at him. “The lights are just so amazing.”

He looked up as well and sighed, “Yes, they are.”

She kept on looking at him and felt warmth rushing throughout her frame. “Thank you—for tonight.”

He looked at her in an instant. He gave her a content look and replied, “As I’ve said before, your company warms me. No need to thank me.”

Suddenly, Mr. Valmont climbed up to the center of the stairwell and faced the crowd before him. The music has stopped and everyone turned their attention to him.

“Everyone,” started Mr. Valmont, “In behalf of my family, I would like to express my grandest gratitude to all of you for coming to my daughter’s birthday.”

The crowd clapped and he continued, “I wish you all a good night and a safe journey home—and happy birthday to Kathryn!”

He raised his hand to Kathryn’s spot and everyone looked at her with great smiles and greetings. She smiled back at them and held on to Sebastian ever so tightly. Sebastian felt his muscles twitched a bit from Kathryn’s grip but remained calm. He gave the crowd his bright smile and accidentally turned to Susan’s spot. He remained his eyes on her. For a moment, he was breathless.

Susan glanced at him and completely froze. His eyes were the darkest in brown she has ever seen. She became afraid. She doesn’t know Sebastian’s intentions. She doesn’t know Sebastian’s thoughts. She doesn’t know Sebastian at all.

I’m sure, she thought, that I don’t know him. And yet deep in her heart, she had the most ironic feeling as if she does.

She quickly turned to Viktor and said, “Will you give me a ride home?”

He stopped his clapping and almost couldn’t speak when he heard her. “I—I don’t think I can. I—I—I d-don’t have my own—”

“It doesn’t matter,” she interrupted him.

Viktor looked at her intently and a smile escaped from his lips. “My pleasure.”

~~~~~
“Thank you for the most delicious dinner, cousins,” said Eustace as he grabbed his coat from the closet and handed Jill hers.
“I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it,” Peter replied and patted him on the back.
Jill slid into her coat and stretched out her arms into the sleeves. “I sure do hope that we can plan another dinner like this soon enough.”
“Oh, Jill,” Lucy sighed. “Why don’t you and Eustace just stay the night over? It would just be so grand—and we’ll talk and chat more about—”
“Lu,” Peter said as he interrupted her. She gazed at him with almost a frown.
Edmund chuckled and turned to her. “Don’t worry, Lu. They’ll be back for another dinner next time—and I’ll cook.”
She brightened up while Eustace and Jill laughed.
“We’ll take your word for it,” Eustace said after sliding into his coat.
“I’m going to need your meat though,” Edmund replied, “for my special Dragon Broth.”
They all laughed. And in moments, Eustace and Jill bade their farewells and left. Peter and Edmund chatted their way to the kitchen when they noticed Lucy still standing at the door.
“Lu?” Peter called out to her.
She turned around and replied, “What about Susan?”
The boys looked at each other and grasped the problem back at hand. They walked towards her with comfort eyes.
“She’ll be home soon,” Peter replied.
“Peter,” she said, “That’s not what I mean.”
He looked at Edmund hoping for some back up. Somehow, Peter’s words got stuck in his throat.
“Would you like to wait for her?” Edmund asked after realizing Peter’s motion and looked at Lucy. “I am still going to wash the dishes and I’d like some company before Su comes.”
Lucy smiled and said, “I’d like that.”
The boys smiled and they all went to the kitchen.
~~~~~

“Where’s your coat?” Viktor asked Susan. They were just outside the door while the guests were leaving the party.

“I don’t have one,” she replied. “I didn’t know that it would get this cold.”

She rubbed her arms and looked at the people passing by them. Steams of breath escaped from her mouth and for a moment, Viktor caught himself staring at her lips.

“You can wear my coat,” he said as he immediately removed it. “I’m already wearing layers of clothes.”

Susan smiled and she let him place the heavy fabric over her shoulders. “Thanks.”

He smiled and continued, “You just stay here while I go back inside and ask permission from Mr. Valmont to let me borrow his car.”

“Would that be alright?”

“Certainly,” he replied. “I don’t see why not.” He smiled at her and turned for the door when someone bumped into him.

“Viktor!”

“Sebastian!”

Susan’s smile disappeared and immediately felt a rush of blood to her head while her knees started to tremble.

“Where are you going?” Sebastian asked.

Viktor looked at Susan and then he looked back at him. “I’m going to borrow Mr. Valmont’s car.”

“What for?”

“He’s giving me a ride home,” Susan finally blurted. She wanted to stay away from him at that instant.

Sebastian looked at her and she felt uncomfortable.

“Miss Pevensie,” he said, “will you give me the honor of giving you a ride home instead?”

Susan was shocked. She couldn’t find the right words to say to him. The courtesy he displayed and his offer seemed too much for her. His mere existence seems to crush her and bring her life at the same time.

Viktor was shocked too. “Sebastian, I—”

“Viktor,” he put his hands over Viktor’s shoulders and continued, “I insist.” He then looked at Susan, waiting for her reply.

“I’m not sure if she will agree to it,” Viktor replied and looked at Susan. “It’s all up to the lady.”

She couldn’t speak. She didn’t want to leave Viktor, but she didn’t want to turn down Sebastian’s invitation. A fine young man like Viktor makes her feel warm and secure, but she couldn’t understand how suddenly a boy like Sebastian can be so frank with her and be completely amazed with him at the same time.

He, she thought, he makes me feel like—home, but different. At last, she had found the word she was looking for.

“Susan?” Viktor interrupted her thoughts. Sebastian stared at her anxiously waiting for her answer.

She still couldn’t speak. She was afraid that her words might not come out right. So she nodded and gave Sebastian a small smile.

Sebastian grinned widely. “Thank you.”

She immediately moved her shoulders so she can remove the coat and give it back to Viktor when he stopped her. “No. It’s cold.”

She smiled at him and gave him a hug. “Thank you.”

Sebastian held his breath at the sight of them in each other’s arms.

“Take good care of her,” Viktor said to him after Susan’s embrace.

“That’s no problem,” Sebastian replied and smiled. He then turned to Susan while Viktor walked away. “This way to my car.”

She then followed him silently as Sebastian led the way.

The cold air rushed through her calves and her face. She was grateful for Viktor’s coat and now she felt guilty of letting Sebastian give her a ride home. She hardly knew him, but she still felt she did.

“Are you always this silent?” Sebastian suddenly spoke.

“No.”

“Are you just shy?”

“No.”

Sebastian drew a deep breath and said, “Is it me then?”

Yes, she thought. She badly wanted to say this but opted for another. “No.”

“Do you have a problem? Because you can share it with me if you want,” he said and smiled at her. “I don’t bite, if that’s what you’re worried about.”

Susan pressed her lips and smiled back. Then, he suddenly stopped and reached for his pocket. He turned to her and smiled.

“This is my car,” he said. Susan saw a white shiny vehicle right in front of them with huge headlights and slick silver sidings.

“It’s from America. They call it the Packard Caribbean,” he continued and opened the door to the front seat.

“I see,” she replied and climbed inside. Sebastian softly closed the door and ran hurriedly at the other side to the driver’s seat.

“Finchley, right?” He said as he started the engine.

“Yes.”

And Sebastian stepped on the gas.

On the road, they didn’t speak which was really odd for Susan because she find Sebastian a talker in the party.

“Are you always this silent too?” She said finally.

Sebastian chuckled. “No, not really. I thought that you just wanted some peace and quiet.”

“No, not really,” she repeated after him, almost mocking him with a smile.

Sebastian smiled. “Would you like some music then?” he said and turned on the radio.

“No.”

“Oh,” he sighed and switched it off.

Silence. Sebastian wasn’t comfortable with it, but remained cool on his seat. He didn’t want Susan to think that he’s trying too hard to impress her which is true.

“May I be blunt?” she finally spoke.

“Yes, please.”

“Are you…. Do I know you from somewhere?” Susan stared at him as she said this. She needed to be sure that Sebastian is indeed a stranger and she has never met him before.

Sebastian chuckled. “No, I don’t believe I have met you anywhere other than the party earlier.”

I knew it, she thought. There’s no way that I could know him.

“Why do you ask?” Sebastian suddenly asked.

“I thought I know you from somewhere,” she replied. “You seem so familiar.”

“Is that the reason why you seem distant to me?”

She didn’t want to answer his question. Instead she answered him differently, “In the depths of my mind, I have the strangest feeling ever that I’ve known you real enough. Yet I know, and I’m sure I haven’t.”

“Have you had any dreams of me before we have met?” he asked jokingly with a half smile.

Susan raised her brow and replied, “A little too overconfident?”

“I’m just making you laugh,” he said and chuckled.

“Well, it’s not funny,” she said and turned to the window.

He stopped and straightened his sight on the road. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean—”

“You can pull over here now,” she immediately interrupted. “Thank you.”

Sebastian parked the car and looked at the house they stopped to through the windshield. He stopped the engine and turned to Susan, “Slap me.”

“What?” She turned to him and looked at his serious dark brown eyes.

“Slap me,” he repeated.

“Why would I want to do that?”

“Because I feel like a prick,” he continued. “I didn’t mean what I said and I’m sorry. But if that doesn’t make you feel better, you can slap me.”

Susan reached for the lever and replied, “You’re impossibly ridiculous, Sebastian.” She hurriedly climbed out of the car, leaving the coat and walked briskly to their house.

“Susan!” Sebastian called out to her. “Wait, please!” He quickly got out of the car and ran after her. He caught up with her and grabbed her elbow softly and they stopped by the doorstep.

“I’m—” he started when Susan turned and interrupted him again.

“You were so blunt at the party and in front of important people on a very glorious occasion. You were very much persistent to give me a ride home when I had already arranged Viktor to do that for me. And yes, I was so stupid to have let you, because now I had to put up with your conceitedness and you want me to slap you for it?” She finally expressed her annoyance with him and panted with waiting eyes.

“I’m sorry,” he said.

“What do you want, Sebastian?” she asked with eyes still beaming at him, waiting for a valid intention.

He breathed deeply and replied, “I just wanted to ask you out for lunch tomorrow.”

She couldn’t believe her ears. “That’s it?”

He nodded.

“All that trouble just for that?”

He nodded again.

“What about Kathryn?” she asked again, more anxious to whatever he will have to say.

“Kathryn?” he said, “What about her?”

“Aren’t you two…,” she lost her words which made Sebastian thought for a while.

He couldn’t understand what she meant. For a while, he thought of why she had asked about him and Kathryn. Then, he got it.

“Oh,” he said, thinking that she meant Kathryn and him are dating. “No! She is the daughter of my father’s friend. That’s just about how far it is with her to me.”

“But she was so—”

“I’m just doing her a favor to be her escort for her birthday party. That’s just practically the story there is,” he replied. “You thought that she and I have something together?”

She nodded.

He suddenly laughed and said, “She’s the last person I’d even think of coming near her just for that.”

Susan raised her brow and said, “Are you always a little too overconfident?”

Sebastian stopped his smile and replied, “No. I’m sorry.”

“You apologize too much,” she said as she crossed her arms.

“Is it a sin to be?” he asked while still remaining apologetic.

Her eyes blinked a couple of times and stared at the door step. “No.”

Their eyes didn’t meet and felt more guilty and contrite with each other.

Suddenly, Susan spoke, “I’m sorry I—”

“I—It doesn’t matter,” Sebastian halted her and continued, “May I ask you something?”

She looked up to him and replied, “Yes.”

He cleared his throat and said, “Will you go out with me then, tomorrow for lunch?”

She stared at him for a long time. She didn’t know what to say. She cleared her throat while she watched him breathless.

“I…,” she started to speak but nothing came out more of it.

He still stared at her and waited for her reply. She doesn’t know what to say. Part of her wants to accept it but another part of her doesn’t want to. Who does he think he is? She started to wonder if he is just another toy that Kathryn would like to play with and even include her. But he said that he was just an escort for her birthday, nothing more. She thought her mind is playing tricks on her again.

“Susan?”

She looked at him. I guess I will never know till I—I dare a move. And just before she could give him an answer, she heard footsteps on the other side of the main door. She looked at the door instantly and felt her heart racing.

“Peter,” she whispered under her breath. She was afraid of how Peter will react. She doesn’t want any of her siblings to know of her business. She wanted to prove that she can handle everything without their help, eventhough she felt scared most of the time. Sometimes she wondered where her courage comes from, or was it just stupidity in action.

“What?” Sebastian asked wondering what she said.

Susan looked back at him and replied, “Yes.”

Sebastian’s face brightened. “Thank you. I’ll wait for you here at 11 o’clock tomorrow then?”

Susan nodded and quickly gave him a smack on his cheek. She rushed to the door before somebody opens it.

Sebastian’s eyes grew wide of joy. He touched his cheek and felt the warmth tingle slowly fading on his skin. He turned and started walking to his car with a light feeling on his feet.

Susan stopped at the door step and smiled. And before she could turn the knob open, she peeked on to her shoulder and watched as Sebastian was walking in a very slow pace with his hand touching his cheek. I guess I’ll see you tomorrow then. She then thinks that he wasn’t as bad as she thought after all. She looked back to the door knob still wearing a smile.

Sebastian stopped at his tracks and turned. He looked back at Susan who was at the doorstep. He returned to his walk to his car and thought, I can’t wait till tomorrow, my queen.

~~~~~
“Susan,” Peter said as he opened the door and found her on the door step with a smile.
Susan’s smile faded. “Peter.”
He stared at her with strict eyes. Then he noticed a figure walking on their pathway towards the street. His brows met and wondered who he was.
Susan noticed his gaze on Sebastian. She got nervous and quickly said, “I told you not to wait up for me.” She bumped him and made a small push towards inside. She doesn’t want Peter to know Sebastian just yet.
“Who was that?” Peter asked as he slowly walked out of the door.
Susan turned to him and replied, “No one.” She saw him outside and her heart went racing fast.
Peter stopped by their door step and stared hard at a man walking towards the car. The sways of his hair and his tall frame made Peter think hard. He figured that the man gave Susan a ride home, but that wasn’t really what he was wondering. The man seemed so familiar to him.
He turned around and, at that instant Sebastian peeked over his shoulder and saw a figure of a man walking inside the house. He saw Susan looking at him. Then, the door was closed.
“Must be her brother,” he said under his breath and finally arrived at his car. But before he could walk around to the driver’s seat, he saw the coat inside.
~~~~~

“Why are you still up?” Susan asked as Peter closed the door behind him.

“We waited for you,” he replied.

“Susan!” Susan turned around and saw Lucy running towards her with a smile. Behind her was Edmund following slowly.

“Lucy,” she said and received her hand with a smile.

“How was the party?” Lucy asked.

“It was fine,” she replied and felt Lucy’s small arms wrap around her waist.

“You look so beautiful,” Lucy said and buried her cheek to her dress.

“Thank you,” she said and looked down on her. Lucy somehow never fails to brighten her up. She then looked at Edmund who was staring at her.

“We need to talk,” Peter said.

Susan turned around and looked at him. “About what?”

“About Narnia,” Edmund replied as she looked at him as well. Lucy loosened her grip and turned to face her.

“What about it?” She didn’t quite understand why her siblings still push their idea of Narnia as real.

“You can’t go on pretending, Su,” Peter said.

“Pretending?” she chuckled. “I have grown out of pretending in that game of yours. Aren’t you too old to still play that?”

She walked towards the kitchen but Edmund halted her. “Su, it’s not a game.”

“As I recall correctly, you were the star of it,” she said and tried to evade him when they heard a knock on the door.

Sebastian, Susan thought and hurried back to the door but Peter had already opened it.

~~~~~
A rush of cold air breezed through the open door as Peter’s eyes grew wide at the sight of a man right in front of him.
“Caspian,” he said and froze.
“What?” said the person outside, “I’m sorry but you must have mistaken me for somebody else. I’m Sebastian.” He held out his hand for a shake but it wasn’t returned.
“Right,” he continued. “May I speak with Susan, please?”
Peter, who was still stunned, pushed the door and revealed Susan behind it. Behind her, two more figures stared at him.
“Good evening,” he greeted to the two people behind Susan and waved a little. He then turned to Susan and said, “I believe you left this in the car.” He held out the coat to her.
“Oh,” Susan sighed and received the coat. “Thank you.”
Suddenly, the two figures behind her walked towards the door and looked at Sebastian intently.
Susan noticed the looks of her siblings at him. “Sebastian, they are my brothers and sister. Peter, Edmund, Lucy, this is Sebastian,” she said as she introduced him to them.
Then, Lucy said, “Cas—” but her mouth was immediately covered by Edmund.
“Pleased to meet you,” Edmund said to him and acted normal.
Sebastian smiled and nodded.
“Are you from here?” Edmund asked.
“Oh, yes,” he replied, “But I live in downtown.”
“Ah,” Edmund said and continued, “What school are you attending?”
Sebastian looked at him for a while. He just arrived from America and going to school for the semester hasn’t crossed his mind before. He just thought of visiting his family and then leaves London again.
“I—uh…,” he really didn’t know what to say. Susan, who had been looking at Edmund, suddenly looked at him.
He looked at her and he knew that he can’t just leave London again just like before. He looked back at Edmund and continued, “What school is near St. Finbars?”
“Uh, that’ll be Hendon House?” Edmund replied with a confused look.
“Yes,” Sebastian said,” Yes, Hendon House.” He felt funny at that moment. He knew that Hendon House was not the best school in London, and his father would certainly disagree of him being enrolled there. Even him too, but the thought of being near Susan meant more to him than being in any reputable school.
“Really?” Edmund exclaimed, “Peter and I are from there too! Are you new?”
He looked at Susan and replied, “Yes.”
“Thank you for the coat,” she said again.
“I’ll see you tomorrow then,” he said and reached for her hand and brushed a kiss on her knuckles. He looked up to her and continued, “My queen.” He returned her hand and bowed to her. He then looked at her siblings and bowed ever so slightly to them.
“Good night,” he turned around and walked towards his car.
Peter, Edmund and Lucy were shocked at Sebastian’s display, and one by one they looked at Susan.
Queen? Susan reflected on Sebastian’s words as she raised her hand and looked at her knuckles. She knows that she must be flattered and feel all glittery inside for having shown with a very proper affection and be complimented as such, but her heart felt different. Queen? She repeated in her mind and the thought of it makes it stranger and even more familiar to her.
“Su,” Edmund called and she turned to look at him. “Are you remembering something?”
She looked at him as if she wanted to say yes, but no words fell onto her tongue. She wanted to say it, but she wasn’t sure if she remembered anything. In fact, she doesn’t remembering anything. She found it odd that Edmund asked him that. Then, she noticed Lucy and Peter looking at each other and then they looked at her. At that moment, she knew that her siblings are trying to make her silly again by making her remember a fantasy game they played when they were still children.
Her angry eyes locked at Peter’s for a moment to make him notice how angry she was. Peter loosened himself, but before he could reach out to her, Susan dashed her way to the stairs and up to her room.
~~~~~

“Good night,” Lucy closed the door and turned to her brothers.

“Not just yet,” Edmund said and his siblings looked at him.

“Edmund, what is it now?” Peter asked.

“Did you see him?”

“Yes,” Lucy replied, “He looks exactly like—”

“Caspian,” Peter interrupted. They all looked at each other.

“How odd it is to have someone who looks exactly like him right in our door step?” Lucy said, “Is it possible that Caspian was reincarnated of some sort?”

“Lucy, stop talking gibberish,” Peter said and rolled his eyes at her.

But Lucy continued, “What? The more I think of it, the more possible it becomes. Must have been Aslan’s doing.”

“Aslan would never do that,” Peter said and continued, “unless he has a very important plan for—”

“Well, however it is, I just got us a plan,” Edmund said and smiled at them.

“You got a plan?” Peter echoed.

Edmund grinned and replied, “Yes, a plan. Maybe Sebastian can help us make Susan remember Narnia.”

Then Peter chuckled, “Have you gone mad? Sebastian obviously doesn’t know anything about Narnia.”

“But we don’t have to make him know—yet”

“But nobody can know about Narnia except for those who have gone there—like us and Eustace and Jill,” Peter said mockingly at Edmund.

“And if ever that’ll work,” Lucy said, “how will she accept it again—especially him?”

“What do you mean, Lu?” Peter asked.

“Have you forgotten how she forgot Narnia?” she paused, waiting for them to answer but none of them spoke. “It’s because she wanted to forget Caspian.”

They were silent for a while. This never occurred immediately to them.

“This is going to be harder than I thought,” Edmund said under his breath and both of his siblings wore weary eyes at him. “But it’s a risk worthy to take.”

“Ed!” Peter exclaimed. “Moving on was the best choice for Susan.”

“Yes, but,” Edmund continued, “But forgetting was the worst for her—and so it is for the rest of us. Look how we are all affected by her change.”

Peter looked down at Lucy who looked at him back. They have been indeed affected by Susan’s gradual change just over a couple of years. It only took a toll when suitors and parties and fashion had invaded her spirit after her trip to America, and the gentleness that which she was renowned of faded over through the course of invitations and presents. Her siblings never took this seriously, but when they asked her about Narnia tonight, it was time for them to act.

“Alright,” Lucy said, “I’m game if you are.” She looked at Peter who had been sighing under his breath.

“Fine,” he said and rolled his eyes. He certainly didn’t want to be forced into this but seeing he was the only one left being skeptical over Edmund’s plan, he continued, “I’m in, but you have to promise me that we are going to keep a very watchful eye over her. We don’t want her to get hurt again.”

Edmund grinned widely. “I promise by the Lion’s Mane.”

Lucy raised her right hand and put her left to her chest, “Me too.”

“So how is this going to work?” Peter asked.

“Simple,” Edmund answered with a quirky smile, “We just let her date Sebastian.”

“Don’t we have to do something?”

“Why?”

Peter sighed and replied, “She has no idea who Caspian is.”

“Do you think we should talk to Sebastian about this?” Lucy asked.

“No!” The boys replied.

“That’s what I thought.”

“Peter,” Edmund continued, “we don’t have to do something. Sebastian is the living replica of our Caspian. His looks obviously are like Caspian, his American accent which is Telmarine’s for Caspian, his American car which is Destrier for Caspian—and how he talks to Susan. And Susan already is feeling something, I know it. We just have to let this happen again and again till she will wake up one day and remember her crown.”

“And on that day,” Lucy added, “we will have to make sure that we’re there.”

“You have a point,” Peter said, “but we will have to make sure that there is progress.”

Edmund’s forehead wrinkled. “What?”

“Does that mean you are going to follow her around?” Lucy said in confusion.

“No,” Peter replied, “we are going to follow her around.”

“Really now, Peter,” Lucy sighed.

He started walking towards the kitchen and replied, “You have no choice, or else I’m out of it.”

“What?” Lucy and Edmund exclaimed as they followed him.

~~~~~
Susan sat before the mirror and removed her jewelry delicately. She let her hair fall from her do and the shiny brown curves touched her back. She then changed to her robe and sat back before the mirror. She quickly put some cream on her face and gently swabbed the make up off with a cotton ball. She did this a couple of times, and then she heard a scold from Peter downstairs.
What now, she thought. She was very tired and hearing her siblings argue is the last thing she wanted, but she didn’t want to interfere on whatever they were discussing.
I bet they’re talking about that silly game again, she thought again. She didn’t understand how her siblings are forcing her to believe it’s real. Obviously it’s not.
Just then, the face of Sebastian with a small smile flashed in her mind on a split second. It blinded her for a moment and a terrible headache rushed through her skull instantly. She groaned in pain and fell off her chair. She rubbed her eyes and massaged her temples trying to ease from the moment.
“What was that?” she whispered to herself. She remembers the flash now as a picture in her head. She saw Sebastian, but different, she thought. She knew she saw Sebastian, but an awkward feeling of disbelief overpowered her. That smile… Was it really him? But—he wasn’t like Sebastian all over, just his face. Where did that come from?
She stared down on the floor with a hand supporting her weight and another hand massaging her temples. When the pain had already settled down, she tilted her head a little and spotted Viktor’s coat placed by the edge of her bed.
She quickly stood up and sat on the bed near where the coat was placed. I’m so sorry, Viktor. Maybe I should’ve just disagreed when Sebastian asked me for a ride home. I bet you’re laughing at me if you saw me there earlier all in pain—and…
Sebastian’s face was on her mind again. I don’t understand it at all, she thought. She then took the coat in her arms and carried it to the closet. There, she hung the coat inside on a hanger when she found herself staring at the darkness inside.
I wonder, she thought. Her face became curious while her hand slowly reached out inside.
“What?” A faint voice in unison from downstairs startled her. She quickly shook her head and clutched her hand back. What was I doing?
Never Forget (Chapter 2: The Party)
A/N: I had to be a little more inspired and listened to Easy Virture soundtrack. Oh uhhh BTW! The name Sebastian is from the movie "Cruel Intentions" and the surname "Whittaker" is from the movie "Easy Virtue" and the "Viktor Merteuil" character is inspired from Harry Potter's "Viktor Krum" but surname is from the movie "Cruel Intentions" which are not mine at all. This is a pure work of a fan.
Chapter 1: The Invitation
~~~~~

Chapter 2: The Party

The cold evening wind breezed as Susan finally arrived at the Valmont Mansion passing the wide fields of trimmed grass, huge trees and flowers in blossom. She looked and watched on the scenery her eyes had ever behold as each pebble grinded deeper to the earth by the taxi wheels. She was in awe.

The taxi rounded up to the majestic front door of the mansion where she can hear music and people inside. She scurried to her purse and gave the driver her fare.

“You must be a very important person to be invited to a party like this,” said the driver while counting the money pieces on his hand.

Susan smiled. She felt she belonged. “Keep the change, sir,” she said to him. The driver turned a little to her and smiled.

A valet parking boy rushed to the taxi and opened the door for her with a smile on his face. She lifted her dress a little and stepped out. And as the taxi drove away, she still stood there in awe and examining each intricate detail of the mansion.

Then, the front door opened and the butler called out to her. “Ma’am?”

Susan shook her head a little and traced the voice to the man in the door.

“You’re just in time,” said the butler with a smile. She returned the gesture feeling all warm and welcomed well as she walked to the door with the lightness of her feet.

“Good evening,” he said as she reached to him. “You’re invitation please?”

She reached for her purse and tucked out the envelope to him. The butler opened it and looked up to her, “Welcome, Miss Susan Pevensie. Your arrival will be announced soon.”

“Announced?” She asked. But before she could ask some more, he guided her inside with a little push of his palm on her back. Susan was confused and walked furthermore inside.

“Miss Susan Pevensie of Finchley attending St. Finbars,” the butler shouted and his voice was heard by all but none of the heads turned to her.

She blushed but it was then turned into awe when she found how huge the hall was. Lights undimmed every corner of the hall and a magnificent chandelier hung on to the center of the ceiling. Red curtains warmed more of the atmosphere with golden ropes tied to them and showed the beautiful scenery outside through the windows. A violin-shaped two-way stairwell was seen at the other side of the hall. Flowers at every corner and table. People flooded the hall and she could hear their laughter and chats in the air while a band of string instruments played softly among the crowd.

“Wow,” she sighed.

“Care for a drink, ma’am?” A waiter with a tray of glasses of champagne approached her.

Liquor for me? My oh my, Susan thought and picked one near the edge of the tray. “Thank you,” she said to him as he turned to offer drinks to the other visitors.

Curious, she took a sip of it. Delicious, she thought. So this is what we should be drinking? She sipped some more and looked around. She could see some schoolmate of hers talking in one corner and some on another. All of a sudden, she heard people talking just a few inches behind her.

“This is too dramatic,” a girl said.

“Your dress is fine. Don’t worry about it too much,” said the other girl with a tiny voice.

“I meant this party, not the dress,” Came the reply. “Matter of fact, we shouldn’t even be here.”

“Don’t be silly,” said the girl with a tiny voice. “Kathryn invited us and it’s a wonderful thing.”

“Yeah—but the more I think of it, the more I begin to wonder what Kathryn is up to,” said the girl which now silenced her friend.

Upon hearing this, Susan now thought if Kathryn is really up to something to have every girl in their school invited for her birthday party.

Did I make a mistake for coming here? Her mind wanders as questions stir her. She began to think of Jill’s words in the cafeteria. She thought of her siblings for tonight’s dinner at their home and wonder if coming to the party was a big mistake.

Just then, a voice interrupted her thoughts. “Looking like an idiot again?” She said and giggled with someone.

Susan turned around and saw two of Kathryn’s close friends at school. “Oh! Um—you surprised me,” she said and cleared her throat.

“Surprised?” said the girl with black curls. “Oh, you’re gonna get more of that tonight.”

Susan looked confused, but managed to curve a smile. “I’m sure. It’s Kathryn’s birthday! We ought to be surprised more tonight.” She took a sip of her champagne and felt the liquid gush down to her stomach.

The two girls looked at each other with a loss of words to reply. Pawned, they managed to change the subject.

“What a pretty dress you’re wearing, Susan,” said the other girl with long brunette hair.

Susan smiled and looked at them with kind eyes to show gratefulness for their compliment. “Thanks.”

“Are you sure you’re in the right party?” She asked. “Because you look like you’re going to a funeral with the wrong color on.” And they both laughed.

“Are you sure, young ladies, that your eyes do not deceive you?” said a voice behind them. They turned to find a young man in a formal military uniform with piercing dark blue eyes and square jaws, lips slightly covered with new growth of mustache and black hair shaved almost to the scalp, his shoulders broad and his stand tall. The girls stared at him and they almost melt upon seeing a handsome creature before them.

“For I see otherwise,” he continued and approached them. He curved a smile and turned to look at Susan.

Susan locked her eyes to him and smiled as well.

“Have you come here to prove this?” said the girl in black curls and licked her lips.

“Oh I have come here for more,” he replied and walked a step further to Susan. His breath almost touching her skin.

Susan felt her heart thumping fast and her blood rushed as her cheeks grew a little red. The two wore smiles and stared for a minute, ignoring the presence of the two girls beside them.

They noticed their intense moment and finally opted to leave while making faces on their way to lighten their feel of defeat.

“Thanks,” Susan said.

“For what?” he asked.

“For saving me,” she replied.

“Ah,” he said. “But your savior’s name is yet to be revealed, only then can I receive worthy of your gratefulness.”

Susan blinked her eyes to erase her shyness and smiled once more. The young man smiled as well and stepped back.

“I’m Viktor Merteuil,” he said and bowed down slightly. “And you are?”

She took out her hand and said, “My name is Susan Pevensie. Pleased to meet you, Mr. Merteuil.”

He received her hand gently and leaned down. “The pleasure is all mine, Miss Pevensie,” he greeted and pressed his lips gently on to her hand while his eyes stayed on her face.

She smiled and received back her hand.

~~~~~
“Mmm,” Jill sighed as she took the last spoonful of her soup. “I can’t believe how tasty this soup is.”
Lucy smiled. “Thanks!”
“Wow, Lu! I’m stuffed!” Peter interrupted. “You cooked chicken and made salad and boiled soup—and how did you manage to mash up the potatoes as well?”
“She started cooking around four o’ clock in the afternoon,” Edmund said and turned to Lucy with a smile.
“I tried having Ed help me,” Lucy said. “But he’s too stubborn to help.”
Edmund rolled his eyes and they laughed.
“How did you learn to cook, Lu?” Eustace asked as he forked the last chicken flesh on his plate.
“Susie taught me,” she replied. Silence fell on them.
“I’m worried about her,” Jill said. “I wonder how she’s doing in the party.”
“Me too,” Eustace replied. “She hasn’t been herself for a long time now.”
Lucy looked down to her plate and softly asked, “What’s gotten into her?”
Silence fell upon them once again as each of them tried to find clues in their heads. They can never understand how she could forget everything of it, especially of Narnia.
Then, Edmund broke the silence. “Maybe it has something to do the day before we left Narnia after Caspian made king.”
“How come?” Jill asked in curiosity.
“Must you be born forgetful, Pole, to forget the story I told you how Susan and Caspian came to be?!” Eustace exclaimed.
“No, Eustace,” Jill replied. “I mean—how come something this unforgetful can now be forgotten just because of that?”
They all fell silent and thought, but no one answered her.
“Maybe she wanted to forget Caspian when he got married to Ramandu’s daughter,” Peter finally said almost in a whisper. “But she never knew that she would have to forget Narnia too.”
“She shouldn’t have kissed him,” Edmund said and slammed the table quickly.
“It was just a token, Ed,” Lucy said to him. “And we all thought she moved on after that—even after Caspian died.”
“But she never thought the kiss would linger on,” Peter said and all of them looked at him. “So she chose to forget him and buried Narnia with it. And now she consumes herself with false pride and vanity, things she shouldn’t have to try for she is Queen Susan the Gentle after all.”
Their realization silenced them and it spread across the whole house.
~~~~~

“So, Mr. Merteuil,” Susan said.

“Please, call me Viktor,” Viktor said to her and smiled.

“Viktor,” She smiled back and continued, “What brings you here to the Valmont’s occasion?”

“My father and Kathryn’s father are business partners,” he answered. “So I ought to be here.”

“Mmmm,” Susan nodded. “Interesting.”

“And you, Miss Pevensie?” He asked in return.

“Kathryn and I go to the same school,” she replied.

“You two are friends?”

“What do you think?” She raised a brow and looked at him.

“Well, one can never consider a person a friend even though they go to the same school,” he said and took a sip of his drink.

“True,” she replied. “You two are friends?”

He looked at her and said, “We’ve known each other since we’re three but we do not come close to friendship.”

“How unfortunate,” she sighed with a smile and took a sip of her champagne.

“The likes of her do not interest me as I rarely spend time with occasions such as this,” he explained. “And the likes of me do not interest her as she mostly spends her time with occasions like this.”

Susan giggled which made Viktor turn to her and smile widely. She felt at ease with his company amidst the crowd of strangers. Light on her feet, she walked slowly to the nearest window to them and stared through the view. Viktor followed and stared at her.

“What is it?” he asked noticing her sad eyes.

“I thought coming here was a bad idea,” she replied. “But it turns out to be okay after all,” she looked at him and gave him a content smile.

Viktor returned the gesture and said, “Your company warms me, Miss Pevensie.”

“Please,” she said, “call me Susan.”

Viktor nodded and repeated, “Your company warms me, Susan.”

“Thanks,” she said and took another sip of her champagne. Just then, the band stopped playing and the crowd grew silent.

“Ladies and Gentlemen!” A man shouted by the center of the stairwell, “I give you a child now turning into a lady, the birthday girl, my daughter, Miss Kathryn Valmont!”

Everyone applauded. Susan turned to see the highlight of the party while Viktor already applauded with the crowd. Slowly, Kathryn walked out to the stairwell with a confident smile on her face. She paused and waved at everyone.

She was wearing a stunning ice blue tulle party dress with pleated shelf bust; halter neckline and golden metallic thread embroidered florals. The full skirt has two layers of tulle over taffeta. It has a few holes in under layer of tulle, barely noticeable within the floral embroidered motif. Her gold locks rested on her shoulders and her red cherry lips were full.

“She’s beautiful,” Susan said and smiled.

“Well, it’s her birthday,” Viktor replied. “So she’s supposed to be pretty.”

“I don’t think ‘pretty’ is the word for her tonight,” she said.

Viktor turned to her and smiled, “It is so for me.”

Susan blushed.

“Besides,” he continued, “I’ve already found one suited for the word ‘beautiful’.” He set his gaze on her and marveled at her blue eyes. She blushed some more and lowered her head to hide it.

“Escorting our princess tonight will be Sebastian Whittaker! A handsome son of a very good friend of mine of Whittaker Enterprises,” continued Mr. Valmont. The crowd cheered as Kathryn walked towards Sebastian to meet him under the limelight and held his arm.

Susan looked up and saw Kathryn with a wide smile holding on to the young man’s arm. Viktor applauded and Susan was about to do so as well when her gaze stuck on Kathryn’s escort.

“Sebastian?” Susan whispered. A cold chill run up her spine as she stared at him. For a moment, she was in a trance in the familiarity of the young man. His hair touching his cheeks as he wore a smile, his eyes and his nose—everything seemed so familiar to her. And as if the feeling of that familiarity hasn’t ended, Susan felt more. Her mouth went dry and she started feeling butterflies. Her knees grew weak and her heart started beating faster and faster. She knew she had never seen him in her entire life, but why did she have the feeling that she did?

And as the couple finished their moment at the staircase and finally greeted them with visitors, Susan tried to compose herself.

“Sebastian Whittaker?” She said and turned to Viktor.

“Yes, Sebastian,” he replied. “I knew him for a little while, but then we have to part ways for our given careers.”

“Where is he from?” she asked again.

“Here in London,” he answered. “But he can’t be caught by anyone at all. He is such a busy man at such a young age.”

“So I assume he is also acquainted with Miss Kathryn?” she said and took a sip of her champagne.

“Miss Valmont’s father is rich and connections are a common thing for him,” he said. “We become surprised ourselves knowing how we are all interconnected in Mr. Valmont’s business network.”

“Such a complicated world you live in, Viktor,” she said.

He turned to her and replied, “Indeed.”

They exchanged glances and smiles and watched as Kathryn greeted more and more of the visitors who came. Susan locked her eyes on them and slowly let her eyes move to her escort. Sebastian? She thought over and over again. In her mind, she had dug up her memory to find anything that could link the young man to her but she couldn’t find any. She couldn’t figure out how a stranger could become strangely familiar to her.

As if he was royalty. Upon that thought, Susan almost jumped to her feet and gasped. Her heart skipped a beat and wished to disappear in the party.

~~~~~
“Ice cream!” Lucy squealed as she put a can of it on the table.
Everybody’s spirit was high as Lucy opened the can and the scent of Vanilla filled the room.
“What a perfect dessert!” Jill exclaimed and helped Lucy serve and give out the cups to others.
Peter and Edmund passed the first cup to Eustace. “Mmmm… Delicious!” He exclaimed.
“You can never go wrong with Vanilla,” Peter said and passed a cup to Edmund.
“And so with strawberry, chocolate, and a lot of other flavors,” He said and received his cup of ice cream on his hands as if it was fragile and slowly grabbed his spoon to take a dose of it into his mouth.
They laughed at the sight of Edmund acting like a child.
“Wha…?” He asked with his mouth full. “Ah can’t hulp it!”
They laughed some more while Lucy and Jill served the last cup and everybody settled down to their seats.
“You remind me of your Turkish Delight, Ed,” Lucy said and took a spoonful of ice cream to her mouth.
Edmund grunted, “That was a long time ago, Lu. Hundred of thousands of years had already gone by in Narnia.”
Lucy giggled and replied, “It’s not something to be ashamed of, Ed. You’ve already changed for the better.”
They all smiled for Lucy was right.
“We’re proud of you,” Peter said as he patted Edmund’s shoulder.
“Uh—me too,” Edmund replied and did the same gesture. They giggled to his act.
Suddenly, Lucy looked at the empty chair in the dining table and said, “I wish Su was here.”
“Lu,” Peter patted her back. “She’s gonna be okay.”
“Are you lying to me?” Lucy asked him intently.
Peter was taken aback by her words. “No. Of course, not.”
“Then you’re wrong,” she said. “We know she’s not gonna be fine. When she comes home tonight, it won’t be the same anymore.”
“I know how you feel, Lu,” Jill said to her. “Whatever’s the matter with her.”
The guys looked at each other with no words to say at all.
But then Eustace interrupted, “Now look here. Just because she forgot Narnia doesn’t mean she can’t remember it again, right? I mean we didn’t forget it, so there is still a chance to make her remember Narnia all over again.”
“But that’s gonna take some work and time, Scrubb,” Jill said to him.
“Then we’ll work harder for it, Pole,” he replied.
“Do you think she will believe us?” Peter asked. “You’ve seen just what happened earlier. She thought Narnia was a game.”
“Yeah,” Edmund affirmed. “To think she was a queen by election and by conquest—and by Aslan himself.”
“It does sound pretty impossible, Scrubb,” Jill affirmed as well.
“What are you trying to say?” Eustace asked. “That we will just let it happen? Let her forget Narnia?”
Lucy looked up to them and said, “I think we should make her remember. We have helped so many people in Narnia before, why can’t we help our own sister now.”
Every one of them pondered on to her words while she continued, “She’s family.”
“Lucy’s right,” Peter affirmed. “If she can’t remember Narnia, we’ll make her remember it again.”
And they nod their heads for agreement.
~~~~~

“Are you alright?” Viktor asked upon seeing Susan’s gasp.

She tried to arrange herself and smiled. “I’m fine. I just think Kathryn and Sebastian would make a lovely couple together.”

“You think so?” He said and turned to look at them who were walking and greeting visitors along their way.

“Why not?” She said, “She’s beautiful and he is a son of a good friend of her father. I don’t see why not.”

“Does her status really mean that much?” Viktor asked.

“What do you mean?” She asked as well and turned to look at him.

“They make a good couple even if he is not the son of her father’s friend,” He replied.

Susan looked confused with a raised brow, but still smiling at him. “Whatever do you mean, Viktor.”

He laughed. “In time, I will explain this to you.” He looked at the couple walking their way to them. “But for now, let us make ourselves presentable for the highlight of the evening.”

Susan turned to see Kathryn and Sebastian nearing their spot. Her heart grew louder and louder with its beats and kept getting faster and faster as if it was about to explode from her chest. She pressed her stomach and noticed how strange she is feeling as they walked closer and closer to her. Her mouth was dry again and not even champagne could quench her thirst.

Why do I feel this way? She thought. Why? She could never figure out the dilemma she is in.

Just then, as they were walking towards them, Sebastian took a quick glance at Susan.

She froze. And just as she was finished experiencing that moment, Sebastian took a second look and locked his gaze on her. His eyes pleasuring the sight he has hold. He didn’t move. He was enchanted by her.

Susan didn’t know what to do. She felt as if she was put into a curse under Sebastian’s eyes. She pressed a quick small smile to ease the shyness she was feeling, but she felt even more stranger.

Kathryn shook Sebastian’s arm to carry on to their proceedings. He blinked and realized his trance awoken and followed Kathryn.

Susan’s brows met and whispered, “This is all so familiar.”

“What?” Viktor asked who hadn’t caught her words.

“Oh!” Susan didn’t realize that she was with a company till Viktor spoke. She quickly cleared her throat and said, “I mean—would you care for some water…?”

Her words didn’t come out right. He smiled and said, “That’s okay. I am fine with my wine.”

“Oh,” she said and pressed her lips for relief.

“Here they come,” he said and winked at Susan.

The butler guided Kathryn and Sebastian to Susan and Viktor’s spot and said, “And now here we have Mr. Viktor Merteuil, the son and only heir of his father’s Merteuil Company.”

“Ah, Viktor,” Kathryn raised her right hand towards him, “You haven’t changed at all.”

“Good evening, Miss Valmont,” Viktor greeted as he received her hand and kissed it. “The pearl of the evening, it is my honor to be here.”

“Thank you,” she replied and rested her hand back to her side.

“Viktor,” Sebastian said and raised his hand for a shake, “It’s been awhile since we’ve seen each other.”

“Sebastian,” he said and received his hand. “You have grown into a fine young man.”

“Still the same you. Always full of compliments,” he said and received back his hand.

“Just speaking in tongues of truth, my old friend,” he replied, “For you have seem to attract Miss Valmont’s eyes, I see.”

They laughed softly.

“Now now,” Kathryn said, “It is not my fault to be beautiful in front of Sebastian’s eyes.” She leaned against him softly. He pressed a smile to her, but then focused his attention to Susan.

“Now who do we have here?” he asked to change the subject.

The butler cleared his throat and said, “Miss Susan Pevensie of Finchley attending St. Finbars.”

“Hello, Susan,” Kathryn said with less enthusiasm.

“Hello, Kathryn,” she replied, “You look so beautiful tonight.”

Kathryn smiled and replied, “Thank you.” She stared at Susan’s dress and continued, “You look—pretty yourself.”

“Why, thank you,” she replied and smiled back to her. She then turned to look at Sebastian who is now staring at her. She pressed her lips and looked down to hide her shyness around him.

“Good evening, Miss Pevensie,” Sebastian greeted and looked at her intently. “Allow me to introduce myself,” he said as he bowed down slightly and lifted his head back up. “I am Sebastian Whittaker.”

“Pleased to meet you, Mr. Whittaker,” she replied and slightly nodded her head.

“No, Miss Pevensie,” he continued, “The pleasure and honor is all mine.” He drew a smile and his eyes still enchanted by her.

The butler raised his brow while Susan was surprised by Sebastian’s words. She slightly smiled and raised her eyebrow. “And so am I.”

“And now I see why I haven’t seen Viktor in any of the corners of this party,” he continued, “When he can marvel such beauty and company with Miss Pevensie.”

Kathryn’s eyes grew wide and Susan blushed. Viktor laughed softly and said, “I see that you have been caught with her spell as well.”

Sebastian smiled. “I sure do hope to be in your place, Viktor.”

Susan felt her heart as if it melted by Sebastian’s words.

“Please, gentlemen,” Kathryn interrupted, “It is not polite to speak of my friend here as if she is not there.” Susan looked a little surprised as she has taken her as a friend.

“My apologies for my bluntness, Miss Pevensie,” Sebastian said and looked down. “I certainly did not mean to make you feel uncomfortable.”

“Apology accepted,” she said and smiled to him.

“Isn’t that kind of you, Susan,” Kathryn said. “Now we must be off. There are still a lot of guests to be thankful to.”

“Happy birthday, Kathryn,” Viktor greeted.

Susan looked at her and smiled. “Happy birthday.”

Kathryn didn’t smile back and replied, “Thanks.”

“Looking forward to see you again, Miss Pevensie,” Sebastian said and smiled at her.

“Me too, Mr. Whittaker,” she replied and nodded.

Kathryn shook Sebastian’s arm to keep up with her and left them. Susan couldn’t understand how she felt so light and strange at the same time. She couldn’t avoid to be gentle with Sebastian no matter how much she wanted to shy away from him. She’s confused.

Just then, Viktor said, “Eventhough I haven’t seen Sebastian for a long while, I have never seen him look at a lady such as he did tonight.”

Susan looked at him and he smiled. She didn’t quite fully understand what he truly meant, but she felt uncomfortable. She looked back at Kathryn and Sebastian and sipped her last dose of champagne. She wished for her drink to ease her a little, but it made her heart thump faster.

Chapter 1: The Invitation

Ding! Dong! There goes the doorbell. Peter, Susan and Lucy turned their heads from the deafening silence in their little study room and were suddenly startled by the uninvited stranger who rang the bell.

“Who could it be at this late hour?” Lucy asked as she loosened her grip to her crayons and turned to Peter.

He just shook his shoulders and looked at their wall clock. “It’s 9 o’ clock in the evening. Could be urgent.”

Ding! Dong! There goes the second ring. Susan then stood up and hurried downstairs to answer the door, but Edmund got to it first. He noticed her and wondered what she was smiling about.

He then opened the door and an old man in tuxedo bowed before them.

“Yes?” Edmund asked.

“Good evening,” greeted the man. “I am here to deliver an invitation to Miss Susan Pevensie of this humble abode—”

“An invitation?” Susan interrupted him and shoved Edmund out of her way to appear before the man. “What kind of invitation?”

“I take it that you are Miss Susan Pevensie?” he asked.

“Yes,” she replied. “Yes, I am.”

“My lady Kathryn Valmont has invited you in their mansion for her 18th birthday this Saturday,” the man finally said and handed her an envelope.

Her smile broke and her forehead wrinkled as she received it. “Kathryn?”

The man replied, “Yes, Miss Pevensie. I take it that you and my lady are well-acquainted to have me send you an invitation.”

“You might say that,” Susan said still wondering how on earth Kathryn Valmont could invite her for her birthday party over the weekend when this said birthday celebrant makes fun of her at school.

“Well then,” he continued. “Miss Pevensie, my lady Valmont will be expecting you.”

“Okay?”

“Thank you and good night.” He bowed, walked to his car and climbed aboard as Susan watched him go.

“Is that what you were smiling about?” Edmund asked from behind.

She then turned to him and replied, “But I wasn’t expecting it from her.”

Edmund sighed and closed the door. He didn’t bother to ask and turned back to do his chores as Susan traced the envelope folds in her hands and still wondered.

“Who was it?” Lucy asked who had just come down from the stairs.

“It was for Susie,” Edmund replied as he slowly brushed the soapy sponge on the plates.

“Who?” Peter followed down. But before anyone could answer, Susan rushed to the telephone which made her siblings startled and looked.

“For her.” He guessed and Lucy and Edmund nodded.

~~~~~
“He—hello?” a girl answered the telephone somewhere in London.
“You would not believe who invited me to a party this weekend!” said the girl on the other line.
“Who is this?”
“Jill, it’s me! Susie.” Susan said as she rolled her eyes. “What’s gotten into you?”
Jill replied, “I fell asleep on the couch when you rang.”
“Huh?” Susan raised her brow, “On the couch? Why?”
“Why not?” Jill answered. “Anyway, you were saying?”
Susan smiled and continued. “Someone invited me for a party this weekend.”
“A party? Again?” Jill sighed.
“But it’s not just a party,” she replied. “It’s Kathryn Valmont’s birthday party.”
Jill’s eyes widened. “The ugly princess?”
“Jill,” Susan hissed, “she’s pretty and rich and popular. She’s not ugly and she’s certainly not a princess.”
“Susie, she makes fun of you,” Jill replied. “That’s why she’s ugly, but I can agree to you on the last part you said.”
“No matter,” she continued. “Her butler came over and gave me an invitation for her birthday this Saturday. Do you know what this means?”
“Err, mustn’t you wonder why?” Jill asked.
“Why not?” She replied, “This means I could be friends with her! Isn’t it wonderful?”
“Friends?” Jill got confused. “Who would want to befriend her except for her two little orcs always following her around?”
“Now you’re the one who’s making fun of them,” she said. “Doesn’t that make you ugly too?”
Jill grunted, “It suits them well, anyway!”
“Jill,” Susan hissed again.
“So,” Jill said. “Are you going?”
“Of course I am!” Susan replied, “I wouldn’t miss it for the world!”
Jill didn’t bother to comment her furthermore and listened to her as Susan talked and rambled on her excitement on the invitation she received that continued on for hours.
~~~~~

As days drew closer and closer to the date of the party, Susan thought of thanking Kathryn for the invitation. Many times she attempted to go near her and talk to her about it, but she’s afraid if the words don’t come out right.

Then one lunchtime, on the day before the party, Kathryn and her friends happened to fall in line by the cafeteria. No one was lined up before them and Susan took this opportunity to approach her and thank her.

She hurriedly picked up her feet and appeared instantly next to them which startled the three girls.

“Sorry,” Susan said as she smiled widely. The girls stared at her and rolled their eyes. She felt uncomfortable for a moment and tried to compose herself.

“Kathryn,” Susan called, “I’d like to thank you for inviting me for your birthday. This means a lot to me and I just wanted to tell you that I’ll be there.”

“You should be,” she replied as she proceeded to get her foods of choice. The other girls giggled as they stared at her.

Susan’s eyes looked a little shock. She didn’t really know what she meant. “Yes. Um—”

“Look here, sweetie,” Kathryn said and turned to look at her. “I’ve invited every girl in school—and also a few good men. So don’t let the invitation go all through your head.”

“Oh,” Susan sighed. “But why?”

“It’s for us to know and for you and for all of the other girls to find out,” said Kathryn’s friend with hair in black curls.

“Now, shoo.” She signaled her hand for her to leave.

“Right,” she followed and turned back to her table. She began to wonder why she has invited every girl in campus.

“Where were you?” Jill asked as Susan sat down next to her. “You just vanished right when I was talking to you.”

“Did you receive Kathryn’s invitation as well?” she asked.

Jill froze for a second and cleared her throat. “Yes…?”

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Her eyes were eager for an answer.

“Because it’s of no importance anyway,” Jill replied. “I’m not going.”

“You’re not?” Susan wondered.

Jill rested her arms on the table and leaned forward. “I promised your brothers and your sister that me and Eustace are gonna come over to your house for dinner this Saturday which you obviously forgot.”

Susan leaned back and felt guilty. “Right.”

“Guess you really did.” She leaned back as well and drew a deep breath.

“I’m going to the party,” Susan said and glanced up on her friend.

“And I’m going to your house for dinner,” she replied. “So you have fun in the Valmont mansion while I enjoy your family’s company.” She took a bite off her apple and looked at her intently.

Susan felt uncomfortable under her gaze and stared at her food. She somehow felt wrong about going to the party and leaving her family for a scheduled dinner, but she has always wanted to be with the elite people and going to this party was her shot to fame, respect and eventually, richness. She had to choose, but she didn’t know she had to choose between her family and herself.

~~~~~
Ding! Dong! There goes the bell and Peter answered the door.
“Eustace! Jill! Come in, come in!” Peter exclaimed in excitement as he made way for their guests.
“It’s good to come here tonight,” Eustace said as he and Jill come in and took off their coats. Peter got their coats and hung them in the closet near him.
“It’s not snowing yet, but it’s already really cold.” Jill said while Peter closed the door.
“We have all night to warm ourselves up!” Peter exclaimed. “Lucy made dinner and it’s truly exquisite!”
“Lucy made dinner?” Eustace said in shock. “I hope it doesn’t ruin our evening.”
“Silly Scrubb,” Jill pinched him in the arm. “Don’t be mean.”
Peter laughed. “Trust me. It really is delicious.” They both smiled and proceeded to the living room.
“It’s so cozy in here,” Jill commented. “I’m glad we planned this dinner. It’s been a while since we’ve been together with time in our hands.”
“I know just what you mean,” Edmund said who just walked in the room. The three turned to him and smiled.
“So I heard you’re doing chores like a lady,” Eustace said to him and giggled.
“Tell me when you want to be a dragon anytime, and I’ll call on Aslan to grant my wish true.” Edmund smiled and sat on the sofa with Jill and Peter.
“Ugh,” Eustace sat down as well with jaws dropped open. “You can’t make him,” he said and turned to Peter. “Can he?”
Peter laughed. “I don’t think he can.”
Eustace wiped his forehead and sighed. “Phew!”
“But if you can pull Reepicheep’s tail again, maybe Aslan will reconsider,” Edmund continued and drew a big grin on his face. Eustace’s eyes widened in shock and cleared his throat in nervousness. Jill and Peter laughed.
“Ah, Reepicheep,” Edmund sighed. “I wonder what has happened to him now in Aslan’s country.” They paused for a while and contemplated on Edmund’s thought.
“I sure do wish that I met him,” Jill said. “From your stories, he seems to be quite a fun mouse.”
“He sure is,” Eustace said and smiled.
“Well,” Peter interrupted. “At least we know that he’s having quite an adventure just like what he always wanted.”
“True,” Edmund affirmed.
“What were you all talking about?” Lucy asked who came in to the room after hearing them laugh.
They all turned to her and Edmund answered, “Making Aslan transform Eustace into a dragon again.”
Lucy giggled. “Then he can do a bunch of jobs for me if he turns into a dragon again for tonight.”
“I doubt that!” Jill exclaimed. “I bet dinner will taste funny if Eustace sinks any of his dragon paws to our dinner tonight,” And they all laughed.
“What’s so funny?”
They all turned and saw Susan behind Lucy in her party dress. She was wearing a brilliant ruby red silk satin dress with shimmering metallic gold thread zigzag top stitch and peaked seaming along sides of straight across neckline, short sleeves, and full skirt below pleated waistline which complimented more of her figure. Her black eyeliner shone more of her blue eyes and her face powder didn’t successfully hide the freckles on her nose. Her lips so red like cherries and her hair well-kept to her back. Her little white pearl earrings made her shine her beauty more. They were all in awe.
“Tha—that’s mom’s dress,” Lucy said in stutter. “Where did you get that?”
“I found it in her closet,” she replied with a big smile.
“So you’re really going to the party, huh?” Jill said and Susan froze for a second.
“I guess so,” she said almost in a whisper.
“Party?” Peter echoed.
“She got invited to a party at Valmont’s tonight,” Jill informed him as they all looked at Susan.
Susan didn’t really like to talk about her decision to go and so she changed back to her question. “What were you all talking about earlier?”
“They’re making me pull Reepicheep’s tail again so Aslan can turn me into a dragon again and help Lucy with dinner in Edmund’s account.” Eustace replied to her.
“What?” Her eyes confused.
“We’re talking about Narnia, Susie,” Lucy looked up to her. “Remember Narnia?”
“Narnia?” She still looked confused.
They didn’t understand why she didn’t affirm immediately. Susan didn’t understand as well what their expressions meant. She felt embarrassed.
“Of course I do,” she blurted to break the shame. “That little game we used to play, right?”
They looked at each other with eyes now confused. “Game?” Edmund echoed.
“It wasn’t a game, Su,” Peter said. She stared at him and thought deep of any memories linking to what they were talking about, but she couldn’t find traces of it in her mind.
“Of course it was,” she continued. “We missed Finchley so much that we decided to play that game, right after we played cricket in Professor Kirk’s house.”
“Su,” Lucy called out to her and reached for her hand. “It really wasn’t a game. We were kings and queens of Narnia. Aslan lead us to our destiny there with the help of Mr. and Mrs. Beaver—and Mr. Tumnus as well.”
“That goat you imagined in the wardrobe,” Susan laughed. “You just wanted some hot chocolate at that time, Lu.”
Lucy released her hand. “He’s not a goat.”
“Goat.”
“Faun,” Lucy’s voiced raised with anger. “I can’t believe you called him that when you’ve hugged him after Aslan gave him life again.”
Susan’s brows met and didn’t understand what she was talking about.
“Are you alright, Su?” Eustace asked.
“Of course I am,” Susan replied. “All of you have gone mad when it was just a game we all made up.”
The clock rang its hour to nine and silence lay between them.
“I have to go,” Susan said and picked up her coat lying on the stairs. “Don’t wait up for me.” With one last look, she quickly walked out to the door.
They all stood there in silence and confused. They exchanged glances sharing the same thought in mind: has Susan forgotten Narnia? But before anyone could speak to their problem at hand, a sudden noise broke their silence.
Tsss…
“My soup!” Lucy exclaimed and hurried back to the kitchen. The rest of them giggled at her and made their way to the dining table for their dinner, but they still couldn’t shake the feeling of Susan forgetting Narnia.
The King
I searched the towers of brick and clay
Doors of steel and servants make way
As the sun shines our humble land
Her mere existence stood grand
Along with her brothers for a stroll
I took a moment in toll
A minute of pleasure
And my soul's windows gazed on a treasure
Her dark locks wave on her pale skin
Her face so clear as it has never been
Her blue eyes met mine
And a sad glow binds
I wish we had more time together
For our love will never be forever
A sad thought to ponder
But she will always be remembered
A queen who never had a king
I am a king
But I will never have her my queen
Adam and Eve
Adam:
She fulfills my desires
She fulfills my fantasies
And when we lie under the sheets
I grasp onto her lips
My sweat drips onto her skin
I love her whimpers
Her sighs and her moans
Her breath almost nothing
As I go deep under her skin
I can feel her muscles tremble
Her warmth arising
I held her close
And shut our eyes
And in a while
It was always nice
I lay beside her
And I curve a smile
I turned to look at her
She curled her back to me
Then I wonder
“Does her heart belong to me?”
~~~~~

Eve:

I have no choice
I have no options
He’s the only one I got
I've made my shams
And close my eyes
I whimper
I sigh and I moan
Anything he wants in his bones
My mind wanders
As he held me close
And in a while
It was all over
He lay beside me
I curled away
Naked and broken
“Does he even know my heart’s desires?”

No, Father

No need to argue
No need for adieu
Been livin' lives
Been makin' lies
And somehow we made it
Maybe not perfect
Nor correct
I don't need you
You don't need me
Why should I worry
I don't need to
We are your pedestal
You are our downfall
Your sickness was lethal
And by your hands we crawl.

You are my father
Your flesh lingers in me
Your blood runs through me
But my spirit is free
My faith is not for you
To love me, do not bother.

Entrusted you treasures
I will be gone to the shores
I came back,
What did you lack?
I came back
and gone is the pack.

On the hills I've rest
No, father
No more of your tests
I am not your best.

So goodbye
I will not cry
For us, you have died.

D.M.P.

Sometimes I wonder
Why I'd let the road tire my feet
Why I'd let it pass by me
Why I'd let it travel under my skin
Upon the field of green and marble.

Sometimes I wonder
Why I'd let the flowers bloom
Why I'd let it die soon
Why I'd let it stand there
Upon the field of green and marble.

Sometimes I wonder
Why I'd let the wind caress my face
Why I'd let it touch my hair
Why I'd let it blow my candles away
Upon the field of green and marble.

Sometimes I wonder
Why I'd let the moon rise
Why I'd let it exchange with the sun
Why I'd let it darken my vision
Upon the field of green and marble.

Sometimes I wonder
And still I wonder
But when I look down
His name plated on marble
Then I remember
The life he fully lived.

And so I sat down
And silently prayed,
"Oh brother, may you rest in peace."
